The Saints Learn to Skate/Play Program will be run by Greg Carr; Head Coach of a Boston University Club team as well as numerous youth hockey programs. This program is open to those who have never skated before, those that wish to continue in their development, or perhaps have been away from skating for a while and wish to get back into it. For the young beginner skaters who never skated before, the on-ice instructors will provide the necessary tools to help skaters gain balance, a feel for the ice and to build confidence. Skaters will advance through this program.
The main goal of this program is to have fun, develop new skills, and to prepare the child for later levels of hockey. As they progress, the program is designed to help children learn the basics of hockey as well to teach puck handling, passing and shooting. Helmets with cages are required, and full hockey equipment is strongly recommended for full safety.
Learn to Skate/Play will be run in eight week sessions throughout the season, with the first beginning on October 2, 2010. It is scheduled every Saturday at 10am at the Alexio Arena in Taunton.
Please register online using the REGISTER ONLINE link from the home page. (Hint: you must create an adult record for yourself first, then you can register your child for the program.) Once you register online, the coach is informed you will be attending and are eligible to attend the Saturday after you register. You will send an initial payment of $100 to the Tri County Saints, PO BOX 55, Mansfield, MA 02048 by check or money order.
Directions: Route 495 to Route 24 South to Route 44 West. Go past Shaw's, Stop & Shop, Benny's and Rite Aid and the 99. Take a left at the lights on to Gordon Owen Riverway (Taunton High School Sign). Rink is on left just after the High School entrance.
Alternate Route: From Bay Street exit off of 495. Follow Bay Street towards Taunton (past BJ's) Follow until you pass Benjamin's Restaurant. Take a left onto Wasington St. Go across Route 138 at lights & Sunoco. Take your second left onto Winter Street. Follow across Route 44 onto Gordon Owen Riverway. Rink is on left after High School entrance.
